Privacy Policy
Tally is built to be private by design. It runs on your Mac, uses your own Claude.ai login, and does not collect, transmit, or sell your personal data.
This Privacy Policy explains what information the Tally application ("Tally", "the app") handles and how. The app is provided by Tal Alfi (TalTools) ("we", "us"). Tally is an independent project and is not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by Anthropic. "Claude" is a trademark of Anthropic.
The short version
Tally does not have a server, an account system, or analytics. Your Claude.ai session stays on your Mac in the macOS Keychain. We never see your prompts, conversations, usage figures, or login. There is nothing for us to collect, because nothing is sent to us.
1. Information stored on your device
Everything Tally needs lives locally on your Mac and never leaves it except to talk to the services described in section 2:
- Your Claude.ai session. When you sign in, Tally captures your Claude.ai session cookie and organization identifier so it can read your usage. These are stored securely in the macOS Keychain on your device. They are never transmitted to us or any third party other than claude.ai itself.
- App preferences. Small settings such as your alert thresholds, refresh interval, ring/bar display choice, and launch-at-login preference are stored in standard macOS user defaults on your device.
We do not have access to any of this. Deleting the app and signing out removes the session from your Keychain.
2. Network connections
Tally makes only the outbound connections required to do its job:
- claude.ai — Tally signs in with your own Claude.ai account and reads your session and weekly usage from Claude.ai's usage endpoint. This is the same data the Claude.ai web app shows you. Tally does not read, store, or transmit your prompts, conversations, or any other account content.
- GitHub — outside the Mac App Store, the app checks GitHub for new versions to power in-app updates. The Mac App Store edition relies on the App Store for updates instead.
Tally does not contact any analytics, advertising, tracking, or telemetry service. It has no such code.
3. What we do not collect
- We do not collect your name, email, or contact details through the app.
- We do not collect, see, or store your Claude.ai prompts, conversations, or account content.
- We do not use analytics, tracking, advertising identifiers, or cookies on the app.
- We do not sell or share any personal data, because we do not collect any.
4. Purchases (optional Supporter License)
The Mac App Store edition of Tally is a paid app: it includes a free trial period, after which a one-time purchase is required to keep using it. That purchase is processed by Apple through the App Store under Apple's privacy policy; we never receive your payment details. Separately, the version downloaded directly from our website is free, and you may optionally buy a Supporter License to support development — that purchase is handled by our authorized reseller and Merchant of Record, Lemon Squeezy (Lemon Squeezy, LLC), under their own privacy policy. License validation contacts Lemon Squeezy only to confirm whether a key is valid.
5. Children's privacy
Tally is a general-audience productivity utility and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
6. Data retention & your control
Because data stays on your device, you are in control of it at all times. You can clear Tally's stored session by signing out in the app, and remove all local data by deleting the app. For any purchase data held by Lemon Squeezy or Apple, contact us and we will help you exercise the rights available to you under applicable law.
7. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The current version is always available at this page, with the "Last updated" date above.
